What Did I Get Myself Into?

I was always a renter.  I always lived in apartments or townhouses.  I was a single, white, female.  This suited me very well.  I had no children.  So I didn't need much room.  I didn't have to worry about fixing anything or even lighting my furnace.  It was all done for me.  When my refrigerator quit, I called the landlord.  When the toilet overflowed, I called the landlord.  This really did happen to me less than 24 hours after I took the keys.  Not pleasant, but not really my problem. Then I met my husband.  Not a renter.  Renting was a way of life for me, however, to him, it was a temperary fix until you could find a house to buy.  It was short term in his brain.  By the time, we got married he had been a home owner twice already.  It was just a given that I would get rid of my apartment and move in with him when we got married.  No discussion necessary.  Simple, right?  No......
